I've had this bottle a while and only just got round to cleaning it up. It had a difficult to remove white residue coating the inside.

The embossing is:

"Azol"
The Active
Developer

There is a picture of some scales above. Below is the initial "S", with what looks like a "J" with a funny tail thorugh the middle of the "S".

Nothing on the base. Hand finished lip.

Circular x-section, 10.7cm tall.

Does anyone know anything more about this bottle? I guess it may have something to do with photography, and be early 20th Century.

Thanks for any ideas.

Max

Here is a picture of the stopper.

It has the same design of the scales and S/J initials.

I've seen a few photographic Developers and the like but that one is the best looking one I've seen . I can't help you with company info but early 20th Century looks about right.

That was very impressive, I'm not sure how you managed to find that page! They look to be the same bottle. So, I guess this bottle is still sitting on a shelf in a hut in the antarctic. No doubt there is a picture of the hut somewhere showing the bottle. I'm surprised the database doesn't have a link to pictures. I found it quite difficult working my way back from that page to any more useful information about the hut.

Thanks very much for the info.

Here is the link if anyone else is interested:

I just checked Google again, and the above link is #1 when you search for "Azol Active Developer" and my Forum profile comes up as number 2! How bizarre. Also lots of info about the Antarctic expedition 1911-14 and Mawson's Hut.

E.g.

Mawsons Huts
