I am assisting a fellow collector in trying to establish a value for the "Chaser" acl shown below. It is dated 1937 and is the variation with the embossed shoulder. It also has the little "demons" on the label and says "Chases Hangovers." It is from Memphis, Tennessee. I found a discussion on this brand in the forum archives, and although it was helpful, it discussed everything but value.

I would describe this particular bottle as a 7.0 grade on a scale of 10.0  The back label is in great shape too. I may be able to get more pics later, but this is all I have for now. Even a near-mint value would help. I can figure out the rest from there.

Any info in regards to value will be much appreciated.

                                                            Thanks

This is the best he could do on the base. I already know it's an Owens/Illinois with the following mark ...

                                                                 5 <(I)> 7
                                                                      2.

The rest of the writing on the base I am waiting to hear back from him about. I suspect that part of it says ... Memphis, Tennessee.

My understanding of these bottles so far is that they are rare in good condition. Most have paint loss issues.

The embossing encircling the base reads ...

Contents 6 1/2 oz  Memphis Tenn.

Thanks for all the help so far. Hopefully I will hear from a few more Tennessee collectors as well who are also familiar with the Chaser bottles, and what they might have to say about rarity, demand, and values.

It turns out that the Arkansas collector found four of the same bottle while tearing down an old store. Notice that the one in question, (second from the right) is the only one with decent paint. The collector could not explain this, but said all four bottles were found together.

Here is the link and one of the pictures from a thread that digger mcdirt posted about these Chaser bottles back in January of 2009. ( I sent digger mcdirt a PM about a week ago but never heard back from him).

                                                             Additionally ...

Here is a copy/pasted quote from digger mcdirt's thread regarding the embossed variation ...

"I have never seen another in my 30 years of collecting) it has raised orange peal effect on neck then raised Chaser on front and rear the the acl (it is not the best but I have never seen able to upgrade it)."

I live in Memphis and although this bottle is scarce there isn't a huge market for it.  There aren't a lot of ACL collectors here in town.  Mostly diggers. I would think if you could match it up with the right buyer (someone who likes early ACLs or someone who collects Memphis or Tennesse ACLs) it would be a $10-$30 bottle in that condition.

madman and acls ~

Thanks to both of you for your much appreciated comments. I suppose this is a good example of when scarcity and condition outweigh demand ... and also a good case of when one person's trash is another person's treasure. Based on your combined opinions I estimate the bottle's value in it's present condition to be about $25.00 ... and one in near-mint to mint condition to be valued at about $50.00. This is close enough for me and Government work. That is unless we hear from digger mcdirt who says something like ...

"Hold your horses! That's a $100.00 bottle all day long, and I would glady pay that price for one!"

(Just kidding digger - it's simply a case of me looking for pie-in-the-sky)

                                                       Thanks again to all

hey bob, your above comment hit the nail right on the head,   someone in memphis might need that bottle, and would pay for it,  that said, if the bottle youve pictured is a 37 then  mine is a 38?

Hi , I would have to agree with acls as to value of the bottle in our area. I wish there were more acl collectors locally, the few look for the more colorful soda labels. As a digger I find several Chaser ACL soda bottles yearly , usually very faded. Getting scarce in great condition. The early ones with "chases hangovers" are cool! Now does any of the east and middle Tenn. diggers have a Coca Ginger from Chattanooga? Never seen one in the western parts of the state.

That's a new one on me Creek. Never even heard of it. Must have been local to Chattanooga. Can't imagine they lasted long with the word Coca in the name.

CreekWalker ~

I never heard of "Coca Ginger" either. Nor is it in a book I have that list approximately 7,000 different brand names.  Maybe there is a discussion about it on one of the Kola Wars websites. Please show us a picture of the bottle if you have one.

Morb ~

While doing a brief search for "Coca Ginger" I jumped over the state line from Tennessee to Virginia where I found another interesting bottle, and one you may be familiar with. It is a "Indian Rock" ginger ale bottled by the Pepsi Cola Co. of Richmond, Virginia. I realize this is slightly out of your specific area of interest, but thought I would share it anyway.  Besides, this thread has just about run its course unless Digger McDirt comes to my rescue soon.

I thought the most interesting aspect of the bottle is that it has "Pepsi Cola Co." in script. And yet it also has "Indian Rock" on it. Are you familar with this bottle? Where I got the picture said it sold at auction for $550.00.
