Recently on another thread I noticed there seemed to be an interest in "Mission" bottles. I even commented that there was one under every bush, and in every antique shop here in Southern California. Of course, even though it says Mission of "California," we all know this to be a national brand that was bottled in other states as well. Below is an example of one I found several years ago while travling along Route 66 in centeral Arizona. You will notice on the images to follow that this particular bottle is from Douglas, Arizona. Which I happen to know is a fairly small town located in the remote southeast corner of Arizona. Thus, I'm guessing this is a fairly hard to find bottle. It's not in the greatest shape, and although there are no chips, etc., it does have some minor label issues. It may be of interest to note that I found it standing straight up, but half buried in the sand of a dry wash out in the middle of nowhere. It still amazes me that it withstood all of those flash floods that are common in the area and took place over the years. It is dated 1956. Which was a time when Route 66 was in it's "hayday." Regarding other Mission bottles, I would be interested in hearing how collectible and how rare they might be in other parts of the country. And being as I see so many of them, let me know if there are specific states/cities that I should keep my eyes peeled for. I would be happy to arrange something if anyone is interested in a particular bottle. Thanks, SODAPOBBOB (Front)
