New to this and just wondering if anyone can help? I found some pickaxe brand bottles in my backyard. the moulding on the front is at the base of the neck and is about 1cm bigger than a 50c piece, which is a circle with "pickaxe brand trademark reg'd" around the inside edge. then inside the writing a picture of a pickaxe with 2 hands on the handle.on the different bottles the hands are closer and bigger. Also on each bottle it say around the bottom edge "This bottle is the property of the adelaide bottle co.pty.ltd.Thebarton". They each have a different number above that ie. 117 or 109.etc.
And lastly on the base of the bottle they have different lettering on each ie. W 1 OR I, ETC. Thanks to anyone who can help with any info.

Hi kess, welcome to the forum.
They are from a bottle co-op "the Adelaide Bottle Co-Op Society", if you where a brewer and joined the co-op you got the pickaxe bottles and when they where empty they got returned to a central depot and cleaned and sent back to all the brewerys who where members. it saved on a lot of the expense of getting imbossed bottles and a lot of hassle for the brewers they just put there own label on them.

Your ones with the small trade mark are fairly modern, they come in crown seal and ring seal (ring top) in the early ones, the pre late 1920ish ones have a big trade mark and come both imbossed and sandblasted in an endless array of variations.
The value of any of them is very little.

Hi Irish!
While in general I agree with your comments about the Pickaxe Brand beer bottles, there are a few that have some value.

Around 1920, give or take a year or two, some dark green and amber 13 oz crown seal bottles were made. The green 13 oz are roughly $30 - 50, but the amber ones are rarer and more highly priced. There are also rumours of a clear glass 13 oz c/s and a 13 oz sand blasted r/s also.

Pickaxe wine bottles tend to be worth more than the beers.

Tandy, Adelaide.

Thank's for the info Tandy, welcome to the forum too .
I've also been told that there is a sandblasted one with a square stamp that's very rare, not that sandblasted beers have a lot of value but some people like them (me included ).

Hi,
I'm curious if anybody has any information on a "Pickaxe" Stubby, I have a few that were found in a cellar of  a 120 y.o. house.  I've seen the long-necks, but never a stubby before.  It is the same capacity of the present day stubbie, but shorter.  It is a similar shape; not the old stubby shape ( which is presently used as a ginger beer bottle ).
Cheers

Hi.
The small pickaxe bottles are very common unless you have found the earlier versions from around the 1920,s but would need a photo to be certain .These 1920,s bottles are not common but do turn up occasionally.
