Hi all,

Too many inches (or feet) of snow piled up around here so I went to an antique mall today. I typically do not buy a whole lot at them, but it is fun to look around. I have always been drawn to skeleton keys, I am not sure why. I saw a heavy one in a display with a blank fob for $4, so I bought it.

The other side of the fob was not blank. It is a hotel key for room 1265 from the Hotel Alexandria, 5th and Spring Streets in Los Angeles. A quick google search got me this:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Palm_Court_(Alexandria_Hotel)

Perhaps someone who knows more about keys could give me an approximate age on this style of key. It is pretty cool thinking that maybe Valentino, Caruso or Chaplin may have held it...

Probably not, but it is fun to think about...

HH all

hj

nice key, the style of key tag is still used today in some hotels that still have keys, most of them say that postage is guaranteed, and can be dropped in the mail box and they get it back
