OK, I have a question. I was wondering how everyone goes about cleaning and drying there copper after tumbling. To me this is the worst part of tumbling. I have a 2 cup fine strainer. I tumble 4 canisters at a time so I have about 30 or 40 pounds to clean every time and it takes me about an hour and I always seem to make a pretty big mess. So how I do it is I take 2 cups at a time and (in the cold weather) rinse it in the bath tub under warm water then I dump it into a cloth lined 5 gal. Bucket with holes drilled in the bottom to let the excess water run out. The cloth, “bed sheet” keeps the copper in wile the water runs out. In the warm weather I do it outside under a hose. I am going to post this on the 3 forums I belong to to get the most response. So if this is an area that you all want to hear about I suggest that you check out the other 2 and see what kind or response it brings. The three forms that I will ask are, http://www.antique-bottles.net/forum/,   http://www.bottledigger.net/ and http://www.thecellarhole.com not necessarily in that order! So thanks everybody for your input!   Mike

I don't clean mine like i use to. I always thought it was a good thing to  do but have found it more of a waste of time then anything.
I have a 1 gallon bucket in the sink, i dump my copper from the tube and bottle that i just used 600 on, I  run the water and use a strainer and just swish it around and wash it till i see no black water running through it. only takes a little time, then i put it right back in the bottle with my 1200 and load the tube, same copper just do the same thing. and the same when i go to polish, I have no problems.

Hello, in terms of 600 and 1200, what it that you use with the copper when your are tumbling? And how much of it do you add to the copper that you put into the cylinder? I am getting ready to attempt to build a bottle machine, and tryng to get all information I can as for using it once it is completed.

Rick, out of curiousity, what do you charge to clean say a Whiskey bottle? Have a Casper's Whiskey that needs cleaning, as well as pobably a couple hundred others for that matter!

sorry it's been so long. I use a 1/8 teaspoon of 600 inside and outside and leave it on for 24 hours. if you forget it or something comes up and you cant get to it, Dont worry I have left mine on for 48 hours with no major problems, maybe just a little to much cutting, not much tho, I than use a teaspoon of 1200 inside and outside and the smae with polish
1/8th tsp 600=24 hours
1 tsp 1200= 3 days maybe 4 doesnt matter
1tsp polish= 3 to 4 days
now if your turning a round one on fast  cut those times in half except for the 600.
remember this, if you increase your 600 amounts cut the turning time back, 1tsp = 12 hours.
my fees and more info here, www.bottletumbling.com
