Hi Connie What you have is called a murder bottle! These were the most popular nursers around the turn of the century (20th, not 21st The reason is that there was originally a long rubber tube attached to the bottle which is why it' s flat on the back with a bent neck. At the far end of the tube is where the nipple went. They were so convient to use since you didn' t have to hold the bottle up for the baby. Just lay it down and hand over the tube and nipple! The rub was, even though most all the bottles were glass, and clear at that, it was easy to keep them clean. But that long tube was near impossible to properly sanitize and enteritis was always lurking. These bottles eventually gave way to the wide necks. These are very wide mouth bottles with huge nipples over the end. Remember Sweat Pea in the Popyey cartoons? He always had one. Anyway, a turtle nurser (as they' re also often called) is usually about a $25 to $40 item for most. Unless there is a city or country embossed they are indistinguishable from English nursers of the same type. There seem to be more American nurser collectors at the moment so marked US examples bring more. That could always change though. Nice one! yours, Scot
