I recently bought this bottle at an estate sale.
Wm S. Ford
65
Willooughby St
Cor. Lawrence
Brooklyn
NY

Back side:
Root Beer
Trademark with a spade in it
1878

Bottom says
WS Ford 1895

Wonder if any of you know anything about this bottle. It is older than I normally find in my area. Hope someone knows. It is about the size of a 32 oz bottle

I've looked at the top of that bottle several times since it was posted and was hoping someone would say something about it. It's very odd!

Wm. S. Ford
Root Beer

His address was:
Willoughby St. the corner (Cor) of Lawrence St., Brooklyn, NY. (Everybody else probably already knows how to read these bottles but I found it interesting to know this place still exists.) The place still exists according to maps.

That bottle was worth $200 in 1999, according to "Kovels" an online guesstamator. If it's correct you're a lucky digger!

wow i had planed to keep it but it may go on the auction block. Hopefully someone else might have some info on the bottle. i find kovels to be over inflated on alot of thier prices. Thank you for the info thturk. if it is worth that not bad for a $10 buy.

Is there a groove down inside the top? From here it looks like a baltimore loop seal.

Tom Morrison's rootbeer guide lists it at $100-$150 copyright 1997 though, probably much higher now. I found a old straight sided bottle called Carolina Soda Water Co. from Durham, NC that had ROOT BEER embossed on it for $12 here in town. Went for around $250 on ebay. It was in the shape of a beer bottle. I recently found another in the shape of a soda bottle but doesn't say ROOT BEER.
