Hi,
I found a clear Owens-Illinois bottle at an old farmhouse site in Wisconsin. The bottle is 8" high and 2.5" at its widest point. The lower half is octagonal. The writing on the bottom is: "12 O/I (symbol) 5" along the top half. It looks like there is a "1" printed underneath the "5". "Duraglas" is cursive beneath that, and "E1643" below that. I would like to know if the "5" suggest the year (maybe the "1" underneath suggests 1915?), the possible value and history of the bottle use. Thank you for your help.

Matt

Welcome to the Forum..
Owens Illinois patented the Duraglas name just after World War II...so I'd guess your bottle dates to about 1950 or so.

Hi,
Thank you for the welcome. I hope to post many more finds on here in the near future. I found the Owens-Illinois company website. There is a section that describes the 3 main characteristics of their bottles from their logo(1), the number to the right of the logo(2) and the number on the left(3). The number on the right refers to the plant number and the left number refers to the year. Did the number 5 on my bottle not refer to the year? Let me know your thoughts. Thank you.

Matt
