Hi, I have an old Johnnie Walker bottle. The embedded writing says JOHNNIE WALKER and underneath THIS BOTTLE ALWAYS REMAINS THE PROPERTY OF JOHN WALKER & SONS Ltd. The bottle looks handmade with flaws in the greenish tinged glass. Hold approx 14oz. It is from New Zealand and I was wondering what age it might be?

We get a lot of these bottles in Australia and most I have seen are from the 1940's to 1950's.
What is embossed on the base? this may give a better idea of age.

Chris

Thanks, Chris. There is nothing embossed on the bottom except two not-quite-circles. Are these just badly made (made in NZ) bottles? The glass has lots of bubbles and ONLY the top has seams which then blend into the body of the bottle at the shoulder. I would've thought a big brand like Johnnie Walker would have more manufactured (or imported) bottles in the 40's and 50's. I have a very modern looking (in comparison) Teachers Whisky bottle that has 1948 embossed on the bottom along with some numbers (A1001) and a symbol with G & M in it. I appreciate your Aussie input as you would be more familiar with these down-under bottles.

The bottle was most likely made in Australia or New Zealand.
This crude style of bottle was still quite common in the 1940's, depending on which glassmaker made the bottle.
The "a symbol with G & M in it" on your Teacher's bottle would be an AGM monogram, large A with GM inside the A, this is from the Australian Glass manufacturers and dates 1932 to 1948.
Check my site here for a good idea on Bottle Date's.
Australian glassmakers made a lot of NZ bottles and the Australian Glass Manufacturers had a plant in NZ also the symbol they used on base of bottles was 'N.Z A.G.M'.

Thanks

Chris

Hi Brooook,

Please let me know if you might be interested in trading that whiskey for anything. I am an avid collector (junkie?) of these old Walkers whiskeys. I have a wide selection of medicine, liquor, liniment bottles as well as jars and others.

I also have many old tools, certain collectible newspapers and other assorted odds and ends.

I am willing to trade almost anything for these whiskeys. Just let me know what you might be looking for and I will
see if I have it. I will send you a photo of anything that may interest you.

Thanks,

BNE
