If it looks like it would damage it, then probably not.  Though, there is the thought that the contents might me just as interesting as the container....I know, that would eat at ya every time you looked at it.
But if you could find away to loosen it up by gently removing corrosion and dirt, then give it a shot.  Is it hinged or compression fit?

Hey Swiz,

I'd consider it if there was some tantilizing rattling going on. When shaken, of course, not stirred...

With my fumble fingers, opening would most likely result in the disintegration of the kit. Great gubmint speak on the instructions!

The top and bottom both have the same edge that sticks out and then there's a metal piece with a channel that fits over top of both edges to hold it together. Its nothing pretty inside the first one so far. The gauze is still there and the wrapping around the whole thing looks like burnt, wet newspaper. You touch it and it disintegrates. It looks like it was one big long bandage at one time. I didn't see any other contents. The second container is going to be tougher. It looks like the same type of can but its sealed and corroded. The top one was obviously partially open. Swiz

http://www.flickr.com/photos/crosem/4039859511/in/set-72157618275839796/ Looks like a WWII first aid packet. I bought mine at a gun show in florida a year ago... mine is closed and i dont want to open it, but im dying to see the contents!

inside is gauze, and in some, an antibiotic called sulfonilamde.

Here's some info: http://www.olive-drab.com/od_medical_kits_ww2_ifak_carlisle.php

Those were some pretty cool links. It's always nice to see more about something you dug. I figured they had to be fairly common since most if not all of the thousands and thousands of troops would have to carry one. In all honesty do you think I should just toss them out? I'm sure there's a ton of these safely tucked away and in much better condition in people's attics. They were cool to find but I'm not sure if I want to display them or if I can even sell them. Swiz
