Good hello all, in the next few days i am going to be digging at a 40's 50's dump. Most of what i know about bottles has to do with bottles from the late 1800's. What should i be on the look out for in this dump? what types of bottles? Any advice or pics of stuff to look out for?
Thanks, Niko

Hope the dig goes well.  Check for milks, poisons, and great condition ACL's.  Show us what you find.                  Ben

Also, keep an eye out for older stuff. We had a 40s-60s dump on the property where I grew up, and it yielded several items that were much older...probably tossed when someone cleaned out the atttic/cellar/shed.

Good luck, and like everyone said, show us what you find!

Heya!
Good luck!
And all of the above!
Keep your eye out as well for old embossed whiskeys, with the "not for sale or reuse blah blah" on them. The more embossing the better, here are few examples of ones I have sold at auction. I dug those.

This fits here and Opie’s recent thread about what to look for in 20’s – 30’s dumps.  A recent favorite dump of mine had early 40’s surface stuff, some neat metal junk, with some late throws mixed in and some 1870’s – 1880’s down deeper under foundation rocks.  All three of these were in the early forty’s trash but the two Washington’s Birthday commemoratives were made by Owens Illinois in 1932 and the Century of Progress refrigerator bottle by Owens Illinois in 1933.  These don’t go for much now but I think they are cool anyway – sleepers.  May awake in the year 2032!

Hi. This is my first post and this is the appropriate thread for it. I am quite the novice at this and it turns out I found several very old dumps it seems in the woods on some land I own. I rooted around for about 2 hours in 2 different ones and I am coming up with old bush flat top beer cans in pretty nice shape. I pulled whisky bottles out left and right. I got an old Dr Pepper bottle as well as a coke. There seems to be alot of pint bottles with various shapes and colors. Everything I found has the federal warning on it. I came across alot of embossed bottles. I will post some pictures soon in hopes To learn what I am doing.

Welcome to the forum Cruise, you've come to the right place.  Federal Law dumps date between 1933 and 1964 and could have some decent stuff in them.  Great place to cut your teeth, so to speak, and on your own property you can do whatever you want. Should be some even older stuff there too.

Now that is one nicely embossed bottle for it's age time frame. It would be a keeper in my collection. Thanks for the pic's.

Unfortunately there seems to be a lot of large car parts and well as appliances in the top layer making digging slow... once those get removed things should go much better. Nothing too interesting so far...Anyone heard of Snowboy orange juice?

Haven't seen Snoboy since I was a kid.  I Googled "snowboy orange juice brand" and found a price guide for vintage California Citrus Lables & Snoboy was on the list.  Of course I also found a bunch of funk music bands too. What else have you found?
