Went to the bottle show in Belleville Illinois today. Sold everything i took as did Anthony (Cadburys). We were outtie by 11 am. Got to meet a great group of diggers from the forum. Me, Anthony, Doug (Appliedlips), his son Devon, and Doug's buddy from Indiana. On the property was a cistern, and 2 privy pits. We tore into the cistern 1st. Nothing but 30's 40's trash ABM's. We then went round back to check out the pits but they were sterile. We still had a great time BSing and hangin' out with some new found diggin friends. Didnt care that i didnt find a single keeper. Just had a great time!! Not all holes are chocked full of goodies. But next time we get together, its gonna be on like donkey kong. Speaking of Donkey Kong, hey Doug, watchout for those gorilla hands and banana's. Just look for the smile in the dark!!

Hey doug... I think I will have you come to Bloomington to see if you can hit a couple of these 1850 houses that I can't find the pit on.

I should have been reading the forum more carefully over the years.  It would have been fun to run into other diggers.  Have you done any more digs in Belleville or the surrounding area?  I live in Belleville but seldom dig here as many holes are duds.  I think they had a good honey dipper in the area…just need to find where it all went.  Belleville has some great pontiled bottles.  I just rarely see them.  Let me know if any of you plan to do another one of these digs.

Jim, I have dug quite a few privies over the years in Belleville and your right most are duds. Have dug a few good holes here and there and a killer one on a lot in the background of one of these photos. My son and dug a packed 80's-90's hole a few weeks ago but very few good bottles showed up. Several common hutches,etc.. There were several California IXL bitters with the tops knocked off. Most are dipped to no end, your right there has to be a killer dump there somewhere! I'll shoot a PM next time I make it down that way to dig.
