Acid Line Bottle - 2/9/2003 8:12:52 PM

This is another find while scuba diving, found in about 75 feet of water. It stands about six inches high, clear glass with the words Acid Line written just below half way, with an embossed line just below it. No other markings on it. Some bubbling noted in the glass, with side seams that extend to just below the lip.

Because of the seams ending below the top of the neck I' m guessing around 100 years or so? Any ideas?

I' m not concerned at all about monetary value, I just enjoy the sense of history, the thrill of the hunt, and the aesthetics.

I think it' s a bottle from a soda acid fire extingsher (sp), most likely dates around 1910.

I' m new to bottle hunting, so if you can, please elaborate? What about this tells you that is from a soda acid fire extinguisher? And, just what is that (soda acid fire extinguisher). I' m not familiar with that term, and I' m trying to learn all I can.

thanks!

I' ve had amber bottles very much like your bottle with " wormald bro' s soda acid extinguisher" imbossed on them.
they had sulfuric acid in them and went inside a brass extinguisher, when you upended the extinguisher the acid reacted with bicarbonate of soda and made carbon dioxide gas.
