Oh man - winter is here!  I'm now reduced to chipping off a 3 inch deep shell of frozen earth to access diggable dirt...and loving every minute of it.  Actually, I prefer digging in the cold.  Having grown up in on the shores of Lake Superior, I HATE the heat...this weather is wonderful.  (It was 20 for a high today)

Anyhow, I have a huge box of cleaning to do.  The sun goes down 10 minutes after I get off work.  My wife and I have a 2 year old and a 3 week old.  SO...my posts have necessarily been limited.  I DID clean up this insulator.  My experience with Porcelin Insulators has been that they are all fairly modern, but I yanked this one out of an older section of the dump last Sunday.  Can anyone help me out in IDing it?

Hopefully I can get some of my treasures cleaned up and posted....

Tim

What's Ohio Brass?  I'm glad to hear it's older.  I had a hard time believing it would be real new, as nothing out of my dump has been new yet.  I have to be careful with insulators, though, because once I found some in the woods and got all excited and posted them.  Turns out they were from the 80s....1980s....

Hey Yoop, the dimensions across the baseshould be 3 1/4", and height should be 4".
It's an Ohio Brass variation of a U-180, worth about 3 bucks.

Oops, I forgot, embossed Ohio Brass pieces are from 1907-1940 and usually stamped somewhere on the crown, recessed embossing(like a wax seal stamp) was used from 1940 to about 1970 and was on the skirt.  They also started sandblasting in the 50s and dating them.

The marking is actually visible in your last photo - on the front crown, near the top. A "B" inside of a circle. I once spotted a U-180 on a pole, but never made it back to pick it up. Still don't have one! A nice find!

Yeah, that's funny.  As I was looking at my post, I noticed the mark in my photo.  I grabbed the insulator and looked and sure enough - a B inside a circle.  Lucky shot!

I have a bunch of poles marked on maps I need to get back to to collect the insulators.  One is on the side of an old railroad bridge, 20 feet up the gridwork.  An easy climb, but the insulators are 3-4 feet out past the edge....

Here is a cool site on line that is the best insulator site in my opinion.  This page has a bunch of porcelain insulators on it, I'm pretty sure your's is there.
