Hey all,...
We've been watching the triple house teardown with rapt attention,...Chris told me last eve. that he was going over there this morning to get some lumber....I agreed to swing by after a job interview...Just decided to poke around a little, as the machine had threw a track last night....and we weren't sure when he was going to be back up and running...ended up scratching down to some mucky blackness, rotten wood and seeds!...Called in the crew,...Fred, Laur, Chris, and me dug today...Tom's having back issues. It was an odd, shallow (3-4 feet) privy,...then absolute bottom. we found two of the walls, and it looked like they used the natural rock for the other two walls. It contained a few items.... A chamberpot, 1 med, 1 ink, Laur found a weird atomizer looking thing, I duug a whole plate with cool pattern that I passed to Fred, and laur has an eye for the little stuff,....Marbles, buttons,...1 Die? as opposed to dice.

It looks like it might be made of Ivory.... Here's some pics to follow and Laur has some vids downloading now...

Here's some cleaned up stuff,....plenty of shots of the digging in the vids I guess...

Here's Laur's little three piece mold atomizer thing...anyone know for sure if that's what it was....? Has a CORK,...instead of a rubber stopper,...two holes. two odd glass pipettes, and lead foil around the lip and across the cork.

Hey there Joe - glad you have been getting out digging. That looks like a typical Maine or NH privy. I usually find nothing, or next to nothing in them. I've only dug 2 little ones like that that had good bottles in them. But I know there are more. I went river diving today, got a couple of common ones, but not the mother load ( I'm finding that tomorrow :)

Joe,

Glad to see you allout hitting the privies hard. Theres a good one in your future trust me, its a numbers game. I have probably dug around 1500 privies over the past decade and if I had known what was in them I'd only have dug about 200 of them. The rest pretty much sucked. Many had stuff but not the stuff I was looking for. So just stick at it and you will find what you are looking for.

I have an early 1840s house lined up for Sunday and a mid 1850s place for Tuesday. Hopefully I will have some cool stuff to post next week.

Looks like some kind of inhaler or vaporizer. Second guess would be some kind of toc bong or smoking utencil.

It sure does, doesn't it, truedigr? I don't know what these people were eating, but there were huge seeds in there. I know that's pretty gross. Maybe they spit their watermelon seeds down there. Sure was fun. Three loads of laundry later, I'm almost finished, lol. I had a great day. Joe was nice and said I looked cute, which I appreciated. Fred and Chris B. are just great guys too and a lot of fun.

Though not whole, that goblet seems like a rare find to me. You rarely find anything red, be it bottles or beach glass. I know it was expensive to make. It's very pretty.
