Hi Kari, I'm new to the sport of bottle collecting and not familiar with the term shingle mold. Could you describe what you mean and I sure we can straighten this out.
Lobey.

Lobe I think what that means is when you have a big tree to close to your roof you get shingle mold. No?

Sorry Kari, I can't help you with your question....

....but I do know where Lobey, Rick and Matt are going, but they  got it all wrong, it is exactly as it sounds guys....it is about making roofing shingles....the roofing people put the shingle in a  mold and then all the shingles come out with the same design!  You know, like a butter mold....

Please don't take this the wrong way Kari, but there is no such thing as a shingle mold when it comes to bottles. Post mold, dip mold, key mold, wood mold, help me out here boys and girls....But no shingle molds

I'm sure you saw this Kari66, but here's what I found. The term "Shingle mold" appears to describe a result, rather than a process:

Taken from: http://www.sha.org/bottle/body.htm

(Note: Sometimes European made case gin bottles will have distinct vertical lines on the four sides which were mold induced.  On dip molded bottles this may possibly be from rubbing as the bottle was withdrawn from the mold [Shafer 1969].  These type gins - both dip and conventionally molded - are occasionally called "shingle mold" gins by collectors since the lines resemble shingle texture.

Hences bringing the term shingle mold ...looking like wooden shingles
