Hey Julie, hold one of the tiny pieces with and old pair of tweezers and put a lit match to it. If it makes black smoke and turns black and crusty it is Bakelite. If it melts and smells like rotten eggs burning it is cellulose. If it just melts and becomes shiny it is rosin. Rosin was used by watchmakers and jewelers. It was also used to hold glass pieces together like to piece lamps. Cellulose was used to make glue.
