My husband was on a the job sight when this bottle was dug up from deep in the ground. The only thing I know about the bottle is that it was found in Iowa. Thank you for any help or information. The bottle is about the size of a Wine bottle nce size.

Learning as I go. What size should I resize it to? What is a slug plate? This is my first post and I am learning as I go. I have about 10 bottles. Thanks for any help.

Welcome to the forum sissy!!!

Not to worry Sis, it's not too big, in fact it's a perfect close up of the embossing. Just include a wide shot of the whole bottle next time. We can tell a lot about a bottle just by the lip. What you have there is a beer or soda (I'm guessing soda) from early 1900's. It's not a slug plate. A slug plate was a way to change the name of the maker of soda will keeping the same bottle mold. interchangable plates. don't worry about that now. I'd estimate it's value at 5 to 10 dollars.

feel free to post and ask as many questions as you like. that's what this is all about. when you do, click the "Embed picture in post" box and you picky will appear in your post.
Again, Welcome!!!
Lobey.

definately not a slug plate, it was made in a "custom mold" meaning the mold itself was carved out specifically for THAT bottle doing so made it really difficult to reuse the mold, i dont know much about chicago blobs but as much as i hate to say it, looks like rick is right on the money with that one!

i personally thought it was a GREAT picture, although the more the better you want to include both close ups like you seem to have mastered, and full bottle shots front, back, top, and bottom

Hello sldavis, if it would not be a bother for you to do so, next time you talk to your Friend who collects Chicago bottles, see if he can give you any info on this Lomax bottle from Chicago. It is a large bottle measuring 13 1/4" tall by about 4 1/2" in diameter at the bottom. It is embossed - THIS BOTTLE IS THE PROPERTY OF AND FILLED BY CHICAGO CONSOLIDATED BOTTLING CO. ; GEORGE LOMAX PRES. ; LOANED-NEVER SOLD. I am curious as to what the dates were it was used, and more so, what it had in it. I will appreciate any information you can get for me concerning this bottle. Thanks much, Lou
