This bottle is mint and says it is for medicinal use.  I am interested in selling but unaware of value.  I found the company history but nothing on this bottle.

I'd pay $15 for it.

KentOhio,

Thanks for the offer, but I believe it to be of more value due to it's embossing "medicinal use".  I have never seen another bottle with such wording.  I am aware that a bottle can be very rare and have little value, but not this one.

There are actually quite a lot of spirits bottles that are marked for medicinal use. I have seen whiskeys, gins, brandies, and wines. I dont think that relates to the value much. Most of its desirability would probably be due to the embossed city , for local collectors. You are correct , rarity, doesnt always equate to high value.

GuntherHess.

Ten four on the rarity thing...I have had a nice offer on the bottle, but guess it's gonna stay on my fly tying bench.
Had I sold it for the right price it would have given me the incentive to sell off my cobalt master inks, Warners, etc.  Collected this stuff in the 60's, when the good stuff was to be had. Thanks for the info.

Fine Old Whiskey, For Medicinal Use

J. F. Detrick operated a milling Co. in 1884. Later he began distilling the grain he milled. The Detrick Milling and Distilling co. was established in 1897. Your bottle dates from around 1910. They are not the most common of whiskeys but they are around. You can usually find two or three at most bottle shows. They sell for 20-25 dollars. The money when it comes to Detrick is in his sample jugs or motto jugs. They were given away to customers of his retail store as well as new mail order customers. There were 12 of them....
1: "As I go up the hill of prosperity, may I never meet a friend."
2: "Eat, drink and be merry."
3: "While we live, let’s live."
4: "May fortune ever smile on you."
5: "To err is human, to forgive divine."
6: "There’s always more from where I came."
7: "I am always welcome wherever I go."
8: "A friend in need is a friend indeed."
9: "When you see me you will always smile."
10: "If you try me once you will try me again."
11: "Drink weary Pilgrim, for tomorrow you may die."
12: "Rye on Toast."
