Hi,
Pictured is a two gallon brown jug. It has a B stamped near the base under the handle. I also found two half gallon brown jugs in the basement. One has a similar B the other has a C stamped in the stoneware.
Does anyone know what these marks mean? Have spent hours on the internet and can't find anything!
It's starting to drive me a bit batty.... Help!
Thanx,
Bob

I know that sometimes the makers would grade, or label their work with the stamps. I know that sounds pretty vague and common sensical. Moonshine use to have the ole "XXX", the three x's meant the whiskey was run through the still 3 times. I am no pro on this, and only know a few things I have picked up through the years. Good luck and best wishes!

possibly it indicates the worker that made it so they could be paid for the number of jugs they produced. Typical of piece work production systems where several workers are producing similar wares.
