Here is a shot of one section of my virgin dump. It's a late 1800s to about 1930 dump from an old boarding school. the dump is spread out over a 200 yard section of dense thickets hidden way back in private property (of which I have permission to access). This is as hidden and virgin as they come...I'll be digging jewels out of here for years. I've already sold a few rare milks from this dump. One half-pint went for $325!!! Yowzers.

Heres a small section I'm working on as of October. I have now enlarged it significantly and am down about 4 feet. I'm always tempted to sift this site because of all the coins I eyeball. I've found 6-7 nice silver coins from this just eyeballing them...imagine how many more there are that I missed. The bucket on the left is full of old silverware. Anyone collect them?

Hey Yooper14...
Nice dumpsite! It looks like some of the ones I've seen along some riverbanks here in New Hampshire and Maine. How about a list of some of the bottles you have found and some photos? That would truly make us all jealous!

Yopper is that a flood area, looks to me to once have been a drainage, or creek. And by the way the timber is snarled around
and finding coins and silverware, that may have washed a house out or downstream. If so I go with the flow.

Dave,
Intersting observation, and I'll keep that in mind at other sites, but no, this is certainly not a creek. It's a large depression on top of a hill. The depression appears to have been deepened before they added trash, as there are some banks where they seem to have piled the dirt. The snarl of trees is just decades worth of deadfall and mess. No one's been in here for ages. It's most definately a dump from the school...I have found many objects to make it an almost positive ascertation.

Yooper,
May I see the coins you found...I collect coins and would love to see what type/year you have. I can give you an estimate of what they are worth.

Pup,
I just posted a couple of them last night. I also am a metal detectorist and collect coins as well. None of the one's I've found are too significant. A couple Walkers, but not in real great shape.

Oh...and another question for you. You were talking about silverware you found. How old and what type did you find.

Youngpup.
The post is in this same forum...it's called "virgin dump - some finds" or something like that. The silverware is mostly brass-looking...I'm sure most of it is from the cafeteria. I have a boxful in the house. I was bringing it all in at first, but then I found so much I just started filling up that old pail. Every now and then I take some silver-plated stuff, but not often. I'll have to look to see for sure what "kind" it is.
