The just about indestructible Cow Ant. Actually it's a wingless wasp. The most painful sting I know of. Stepping on them just want do it, chopping them up is about the only way to dispatch of these critters. I've only been popped by one and it was a small one. Hurt REAL BAD and that's an understatement. Once in my youth an urban living cousin came to the house. I showed him one and told him "I bet ya can't squeeze it to death". Ya would have thought he had been shot, and no he did'nt kill it. This one is a decent size though they do get bigger.

WOW ,COW ANT IS WHAT IT IS CALLED! When I was a small boy I always was curious about insects and would pick them up to see if they bit , stung, what ever, but I aways knew to not mess with this one! Just the way it looked I guess. Always thought it was some kind of mutant ant!

I've seen those ants here in southern colorado. Never messed with them. Just admired the fuzziness of them. My son likes to squish fire ants with his fingers. He hasnt been bit yet, surprisingly. Also, the snake is neat. We found a king snake the other day while on a dig. My son almost stepped on it before he screamed "SNAKE" and stood frozen on the spot until I looked and poked it with my shovel which caused it to slither under a piece of wood. I couldnt remember that rhyme about coral snakes which help tell the difference between the two snakes so we didnt mess with that one. Never know what kind of critters people run into.

Hey Pat, You ever get the BIG black and yeller one up your way??? You can chop them up and the pieces will run around all over the place for a while. Gettin hit by one is like an electrical shock. Much worse that a black widow.

my granddaddy always called them cow killers. darn hard to kill. step on them a bunch of times and wouldn't even phase them. when you finially do squash them they sound like an acorn crunching.
