I am new to this forum and look forward to learning a little more about bottle collecting and hunting. My boyfriend and I love the hobby. We recently found several clear bottles wrapped in newspapers dated 1926 to 1932. A few had corks, all were without labels. One had remnants of a label that had Chinese characters and San Francisco printed on it on it (white label with red ink). We are assuming that they were someone' s stash during prohibition. The curious thing is that some had two thick black rubber rings around the widest part of the bottle. Others had what appears to be thick red wax rings, and others had no rings at all. I will post a photo as soon as possible but wondered it anyone might know what the rings are for. We thought that they might have prevented the bottles from clinking together when in transport. Any insight is appreciated.
