Is there a way to id a jar or a bottle by its bottom markings that is better than simply googling it. That is, is there some sort of online guide to bottom markings.

Here are three specific cases.

1. "3-K-415-S"

2. "D 23 65-9"

3. "C8 G8 2000 6 61 49" plus some text that I can't read

Googling these gave me no useful info. Is there a better way?

Thanks!

Many 20th century machine-made bottles also have date codes, factory codes, mold codes etc and I know there's a resource for deciphering the date codes, but I don't have a link..

The one in the first picture can't be older than 1929. The one in the second picture is the Owens-Illinois mark and was used from 1929-1956.

How do you know? I am not, of course, questioning your knowledge, just trying to learn.

Thanks!

The symbol in the centre was first used in the year 1929, or so I have been told. These symbols are known as makers marks. Kind of like a way of the company saying 'we made this bottle.'
