Blown glass bottle w/rough pontil. Purpose & Age?? - 6/26/2007 5:51:21 PM    zenquickzen   Posts: 4 Joined: 6/26/2007 Status: offline A nice person from the Antiques board on ebay sent me here... don't know anything about the age or use of this bottle. Any information would be appreciated! 6 1/2" tall. Optic panels cannot be felt on outside - only inside. I got this bottle a few years ago in a farm auction in NJ. It was in a box lot of bottles. A few of the bottles were from 1900 or so. Several were fairly modern. The box this lot was in was a Krugers Beer crate from Newark, NJ; it was dated from the 30's (don't recall which year). I didn't win the lot - someone else did. He only wanted one bottle out of it and offered to sell me the rest for $20. So I got about 25 bottles for that plus the crate. There isn't much wear. A few small scratches by the mouth. The bottom is slightly concave so it sits only on the outside rim of the base. The mouth at the top has an uneven ring of ground glass, looking like it had a stopper. I don't have the stopper for it. the color is slightly lighter than what appears in the photos, but not much. It is neither heavy or light in weight for its size. Pretty much what I would expect it to weigh. Attachment (1) Post #: 1

They came in all different colors and designs. The color on yours is a bit more unique than most I have seen. They seems to have become popular late in the 19th century and made at least up into the 1920s, maybe later.
