Found this insulator in my dump today. Seems relatively common...I'm seeing them up for auction. The top says W BROOKFIELD NEW YORK. The base in front says PAT FEB 12th 1884. The ones I see at auction only have the top part, but nothing about the patent date. Maybe I'm just not seeing them though. Any more info on this one?
Thanks
Tim

YES I CAN!!!! PICK ME!!! That is a fairly common U.S insulator, only worth about 3-5 dollars. Its really sweet to dig insulators, and wish i dug more while digging for bottles.....

Thanks Kyle,
Like I said, I rarely find them digging...ok...I never do.
I've snagged a couple from the roadside, but this is the first dug.
Thanks for the info.
Can you recommend a good insulator book or ID resource?
Tim

Well the best one is the insulator price guide. I has ALOT of info, as well as small drawing/pictures of every insulator design so you can find yours when you dont know what it is when just beginning. You can also use www.insulators.com , which has alot of info, and you can join ICON there (Insulators Collectors on The Net) and even get a daily insulator forum digest! There is so much on insulators.com... pictures, hunts finds, etc.

The price guide is called "Insulators: A histroy and guide to North American pintype insulators" and is written by John and Carol McDougald.

Here is the link for the price guide!

Thanks,
Kyle
