Seems he authored three books (that I can find) in the 60's and founded the first American Bottle Collectors Association. I'd guess in 1959 cuz I'm smart like dat!

I did also find this:
The first bottle collecting club was formed, in Sacramento (California), in 1959. That organization was the “Antique Bottle Collectors Association” led by John C. Tibbitts who produced the nation’s first bottle club newsletter – “The Pontil.”

Any of you California guys know anything?

Wow - Just found this site also that I've never seen before. I gotta get some sleep, but I think this one might be interesting.
