Offering for sale this blue ink.  It falls between sapphire and cobalt, almost a hint of lavender...  Really a stunning color!  Nice whittle and in beautiful dug condition with a rolled lip and open pontil.  These are said to only turn up out west in the early gold camps, as this one did, and are quite scarce.  For accuracy there are a few tiny pin pricks, which would come out if tumbled.  No chips cracks or damage.  Price is $950.00 firm.  Free shipping via USPS Priority mail insured.

Nice ink, Matt. I had one just like it in emerald green. I pulled that one out of a pit here in central PA. My former digging partner got it in the pick, and I bought it from him when he offered it to me. I had it for a while, and later auctioned it with American Bottle Auctions. The result was rather disappointing, as it only brought $400. Jeff was as surprised as I was that it did not bring more, but I still made out OK and someone got a killer good deal on a great ink. Good for them.

I agree that these inks are well worth a grand in green or cobalt. You just don't see them often, and they are one of the nicer types of early inks in my opinion.  ~Jim

thank you everyone... In the ground I couldnt tell if it had color or not, Im sure you have all dug an agua ink with ink in it still that looked blue in the ground!  It was a very nice surprise when it came out with no ink in it...  I always have you in mind when I dig an ink Bill!

Jim, I believe yours was the only one I found while trying to reference this ink, I was surprised myself...  I couldnt find a blue one having auctioned though...  Thats interesting you dug one out east, they look like eastern bottles but seem to have been distributed out here almost exclusively...  Be cool to see a labeled example turn up

I don't think I could ever part with that if I dug it. I still want the bottles back I've sold over the years that I now know I'll probably never dig again. That's a once in a lifetime ink, damn it's soooo nice. A diggers dream. I love digging.

I love it! Those cobalt inks are nice. I love 'em all. I'd be happy to have dug one!

We have dug a few of these over the years they come in lots of colors from aqua to pink puce. I have dug them in Baltimore and Philadelphia. I know other diggers that have found them as well. I believe they are mid Atlantic produced but I can't narrow it down any further then that. They seem to have been widely distributed but are much rarer then umbrella inks of the same vintage.

The ink is no longer available For sale

Chris, thanks for the info, in my opinion it looks like a mid Atlantic bottle no doubt... They turn up exclusively in the early gold rush camps in the sierra foot hills out here... So there seems to have been a small area of distribution in the west... I figured they ought to turn up out east too

Nope, my girlfriend found out I had put it up for sale and said no way, she wasn't letting me sell it... I can't complain about that! I was having second thoughts anyway...
