This is my biggest shard of cobalt glass and the Turtle needed a shell I don't know if big shards of glass are worth much but they look good in gardens , aquariums, etc. I dig up buckets of this stuff in a local dump. Thanks for looking,  Marvin

Just look up Slag Glass on ebay. You'd be surprised what some of them are worth! It's glass that was used to make marbles, etc.

Thanks for the heads up on the slag glass Chris, and thank you all for your comments and replies.
We had a MOM plant here, which explains the cobalt glass in a 40's-60's dump. Maybe I can sell some to help pay the IRS this year  Best of luck, to all, on your next dig.            Marvin

Could knap some pretty wicked looking arrowheads using that stuff. Might be a selling point should you try to sell it on the bay?

I've lived outside of Saratoga Springs for almost 20 yrs. now. Back when I first got into digging about 10 yrs ago, You could still go to the intersection of Congress, and Empire avenues, which is one of the later locations that they blew those beautiful Congressville Green Spring Waters. It was all woods out in back, and we used to pick through piles of shards, tops, bases, and broken quarts, and pints. Never found anything intact, and never heard of anyone else finding anything, but I did carry home a few fist sized hunks of Slag Glass from there. Heres a couple pics of it. There were truckloads of it, I guess I should have kept more in hindsite. Sometimes when I drive by the site I wonder to myself if the people that live in the 300,000 dollar house right in the Glass Factory footprint have any clue of the history of that property. You would think if they did, they would have to collect Spring Waters.

I dug mine back when I first got into digging bottles. Didn't know What it was, but thought it was wild and kept it. I also kept some old window glass that is "knapped" into small squares and really thick. I was gonna have my friend make me an arrowhead outta this one, but then I got into marlbes and decided to keep it as a go with. Glad I did cause it's the Best one I've dug!

Nice cobalt and green slag, wish I could find some of that.

Chris,  I think your knapped thick squares were from old car lanterns, I've found some of those.  Your slag looks like the pieces I've found where an old iron furnace was but yours might be different, anyway I'd like to know the story behind what the furnace slag is?

Here's a piece I dug from one of my TOC B&O RR dumps, I would like to know why it was there?
