Im still new at this.  Does a bottle this damaged retain much of its value??  The lip is broken off and there is a nick in the very bottom of it.

The top can be cut off and a nice one put on to replace it. I use to chunk them but now I have them cut off and a new crown top put on almost impossible to tell it.

How much would that cost and where would you send it to have it done?

I get a man in Nashville to cut mine off he charges $5 . I find the closest top to match the color and have it cut to fit. Then I use a glass epoxy to attach it to the bottle. I think very few people could rally detect it if I didn't tell them. He uses a high speed diamond edge blade and it is a smooth cut. Ever now and then one will break but it's about 1 out of 50 or so and you really aren't losing anything per what you start with.

There is a gentleman in southern Georgia that replaces tops. His name is Ken Neese, he is well known and very reliable. If thats of any interest to you!

I know Ken Nease, he did the Georgia Bottle Book with another guy.  I didn't know he repaired bottles tho.  It's nice to know things like that.

Yup! Ken and Carl Barnett wrote the book, both are really great guys to know in the bottle world. I just saw them both at a local bottle show this past weekend and Ken had a few bottles for sale he had repaired and if he would not have told me himself they had been repaired I would have never known.

Ok, This raises a serious issue for collectors and IF as you say he did not tell you they were repaired, he would have sold them as like found condition buyer unaware? What kind of seller would this be? I personally will be looking and asking now! This i would say hurts the bottle collecting, sure you may be saving an old bottle, but...it IS NOT the same OLD bottle? Like people making NEW old GERMAN WAR BADGES and selling them as made in 1944 and getting premium dollars for a fake! I would consider these FAKE BOTTLES! and they will hurt the trade if pawned off as REAL! If a bottle is repaired it should be told or is it BUYER BEWARE in all business and collectibles? Where is the INTEGRITY of sellers today? The old green is too much of an evil and they can turn their head if they get 100 dollars for a repaired bottle? Ok i am off my podium now....Just my 10 cents worth!!!

I was wandering that very thing.  I just want them to be better displays.  As old and rare as these bottles are it is highly unlikely I will run across another one, but it would be nice to have better looking displays.  I agree these would be considered "fake" bottles though.  So I will diffinatly look VERY carefully at any bottle I am buying in the future.  This has all been very good information that I'm sure all bottle collectors needed to know about.
