I dug this today... I'm not sure how rare it is, but the bottle gods thought it was worth at least two slicks!

I'm actually thinking it's a rare one, because it's unlisted on Matt's nexus, and I can't find a tiny bit about a "Dawson's Benzine". I know Charles N. Crittenton was a big wig in the patent medicine business, and based on the sole reference to this medicine I found, it seems this was one of his many products. What is "Benzine", by the way?

In a list of all the patent medicines in the 1902 "The Pharmaceutical Era", I found that Dawson had a bunch of different medicines... "Dawson's Camphor Ice", "Dawson's Corn Remover", "Dawson's Magic Liniment", etc... But strangely, the only reference I can find on google to ANY of these products is in this document!

Here's a link to the google books reference... It's mentioned 3 times.

I'd be very happy digging that....Benzine is naptha,...(Lighter fluid) and I think it's present in gasoline and kerosene too....

P.S.  Sort of resembles a Jamaican ginger...(and from what I hear was probably not as toxic as the stuff the govt. put in "Jamacian ginger, which led to "Jake leg")

Interesting bottle. Benzine was a petrolium extract used for a number of things. Not to be confused with benzene.
There was a benzine sold by another medicine magnate John Parks in Cincinatti. Benzine was apparently used in many applications internal and external. I have read it was used as a vermifuge but it caused liver damage. It is a powerful solvent so it could be used as a stain remover. It was also used as a replacement for ether. It has a very low flash point so it was dangerous for stores to keep it in stock. Many places apparently outlawed its storage.

It has a very small lip flake, but no other problems except for some stain on the back and neck. Luckily the front is pretty much pristine. The lip flake is dull and stained over, so at least I can sleep tonight knowing I didn't damage it...

I guess he was fond of that shape bottle!

I wish I had found "Dawson's Magic Liniment"... That has a cooler name. Think it's a rare one? Worth anything?

Its definately uncommon. As far as value ,it has some but not a whole lot. Its a bit too late and doesnt have a sexy name.
Most people wont even know what benzine is. As you point out the "magic" one has a better name.
