Let me tell ya, Carnival glass is neither inexpensive or usually purple. The purple pieces more commonly referred to as amethyst come in four or five shades including purple are slightly more rare than marigold, the most plentiful color. The big producers of the pieces where Fenton, Hanson, Dugan, Millersburg, Imperial and Northwood among others and can be quite pricey. There are over 2000 patterns and collecting can be quite a challenge for the beginner. The hobby is rife with reproductions and are a constant pitfall for the beginner. The person thinking about entering the wonderful world of collecting pressed iridescent glass should do his or hers homework.. There are many decent books for the beginner on the subject and one must read up to avoid over paying (happens all too often) and grabbing a repro and running home only to be disappointed. Lobey.
