Meech and I hit a hole today and did okay. I found a whiskey and a broken hutch along with a local crown top and a local druggist. I also found my first coin. A 1897 quarter. If you think taking pictures of bottles is tough try a coin. I took probably 10 pics of it and not a one come out that great. Now's when I need a macro setting on this cheap camera!

Zane,

Do the insulators (?) have any markings on them?
I like the pitcher thing, reminds me of old junk

That old junk is a great flea market item. The nice looking badly damage enamel ware makes great garden pieces and flower pots. I'll check the insulators when i clean the stuff up.

Cool coin Zane. I was going to suggest an idea that may solve your macro problem. If you take a pic of the coin (or other small item) from a distance instead of trying to do a close up you can then use photo editing software to blow the picture up and crop it. It always seems to work for me when I'm having trouble with small items... it may work for you as well? Keep at it, you're off to a good start for the year! Chris

Thanks Lex, Always nice to get a compliment from a digger like you. You always seem to come up with killer stuff! Here's a pic of the local Crown Top. I'm trading it to my brother for a Marion Jar! Sweet!

Great finds Zane. I just got logged in, so Hi to all. Been reading the posts for a few weeks and have really enjoyed. I've been digging and collecting for around 40 years. It's great to have a site as great as this one to share and receive info on finds. I got a digital camera and maybe I can get some photos posted.

Thanks Buster, And all I can say is woohooooo new blood means new pics we haven't seen. I can't wait!
Rona, I'd put between $5 and $10 on pieces like these to beused in the garden or as flower pots. The ones in good shape are way to pricey to do that with. If they're in oddball colors like red or green I'd even try and squeeze a few more dollars out of them.

Zane,

I use a digital camera at work and attach photos to e-mails.  I'm just not sure of how to attach the photo to the post.  Any help would be appreciated.  How about a photo of the Straight Sided Macon Coco Cola with the backward "N" for starters?

Welcome Buster!    As for posting pix, after you have transferred it to your computer, make sure they are 200 kb or smaller (Right click the pic you want to use and select properties to see the size-resize if nec).  Then, when you go to write a new post or post reply, check the box that says embed picture in post and then select the click here to upload, find the pic you want to use (wherever you saved it)  ....and you should be in business!  Hope this helps!

Talking about me while I'm away???

Here's some photos from my visit. First is a look at the couple of bottles that 'made it'. A hutch, which we don't dig too many here in Va., aqua embossed: S.J. SHIPLEY / WHEELING / W. VA. (blown). Then a machine made soda, embossed in slug: THE IRON BREW in arc over BOTTLING WORKS over D.J. PHILLIPS over PROP. and in reverse arc WHEELING, W. VA. After removing the mud it exposed GAY-OLA on the rear shoulder and base.
