A friend of mine dug this one recently and was going to recycle it, but I offered to take it and find it a home. What does everyone think - keep it or recycle it? It's a J.W. Fitch's Ideal Dandruff Remover. I really like the bottle, but I hate chips and cracks. As you can see the lip is pretty badly chipped, and there's a gouge out of the base in the back. Let me know what you think, your votes will determine if it finds a home on my shelf, or new life after recycling. Thanks!

PS: Does anyone know where this bottle is from?

That's called keep 'til something better comes along. It may not be tomorrow so if you like it, keep it.
I like the script lettering for what it's worth.

Yeah it's a pity about the condition, but the real value killer is that it's a machine-made bottle.. the only redeeming factor is the embossing.. funny what people needed to remove dandruff with before the advent of the Dustbuster™..

It's actually F not J and he was from....

In 1892, Frederick W. Fitch was a barber in Madrid, Iowa (pop. 565). His shampoo became so popular that he quit barbering to make "Fitch's Dandruff Remover Shampoo." By last year, his company had annual sales of $11,000,000. The advertising that did the trick: "Fitch Shampoo removes every trace of dandruff on first application. . . ."

I've heard Fitches are common, but that might be the later ones.

I'd say put it for $1 at a bottle show, if you're selling at one (I'm doing that in November), and if it doesn't sell, recycle it.

I'd keep it, I personaly have dug quite a few bottles with chips even some bigger than average breaks though mostly whole. I think most old bottles are so pretty, it doesn't even matter to me in there "mint", since I just collect and don't sell them  and never plan to. whatever you do is up to you though, you could donate it to a thrift store or just leave it at a dump for someone to find, I'm sure someone would want it even if it's got cracks and chips.

I think I'd keep that but not for a major collection or anything. If you have some use for it where its flaws will actually improve matters, like in a garden as suggested above, that would make it worthwhile. It's something you don't see on the market anymore at least. If you find another one in better condition, then recycle that one.

If you dont keep it, leave it somewhere in the woods where a hiker or someone else can find it and possibly get interested in the hobby.
