Has anyone seen a double eagle w/o the ovals below the eagles? I am thinking about this one but the lack of ovals has me worried. I would like to start a flask collection but I am pretty new to bottle collecting. Any help would be greatly appreciated. What do ya think?

I don't think it's a repro if your worried. It's probaly a GII-118 or 119. I can't be sure from your pictures.

Whittled,

Those are the only pics I have of it. So there are eagle flasks out there w/out ovals then? Can you tell me in your opinion what would be the best book/guide to buy concerning flasks?

                        Thank you, Bent-Twig.

American Glass, by Geo. & Helen Mckearin is an excellent reference and can always be found on E-bay it seems. It's been published many times over the years.  There are probably other references that cover more by now. I use the auction sites to research and they see a lot of flasks come and go.  Try American Bottle Auctions, Jim Hagenbuch,  or Heckler to start.  Looks like an old flask from the pics, but I can't be sure.

Most definitely a period flask (C.1870) and probably Midwestern in origin.  If you are interesting in collecting flasks you NEED American Bottles, Flasks and their Ancestry by McKearin/Wilson.  Glad to have you on board...
