I have a Cobalt Blue Dr. Liebig's imported German Salts bottle.  Marking on bottom is 1219.  Bottled by Benjamin Green, Apothecary, Portsmouth, N.H.
Need more info on this item.. Possible dates, worth etc.. If you can help it would be greatly appreciated.

I have no idea on real value, but I really love it! I'd buy it in a shop for $40 without hessitation. I collect NH meds.

I always thought Liebig was an appropriate name for a patent medicine.

Here's a link to a bunch of Liebig's stuff. Look like he ran the gamut from mid 1800's to early 1900's.  I'm guessing yours is 1890 give or take a few years? Do you know id it's BIM or ABM?

I was in a group antique shop last week and saw that same label on at least 3 other unembossed aqua bottles.  The  labels were in virtually the same condition. The bottle dealer who had them for sale had a card in the case with the bottles that claimed he had bought them from a New Hampshire pharmacy.  I would take a guess and say that the label might be authentic, but the bottles they are stuck on are not the original. I might be wrong,  but a little more research is called for on this, I'd say.  The shop I was in is in Nobleboro, Me.  Just a heads up...........

Now that you mention it.....the bottle looks awfully purple...irradiated?
I was in a group shop in Northwood NH and saw several fake "old labeled" bottles...the labels looked real enough, but were too perfect....and had other obvious "tells" as well...if you know what to look for..

Hi Indigo,
I love your bottle and found some information on Benjamin Green if you are interested.
According to Ancestry.com Benjamin Green was born in 1867 in Portsmouth, NH and is listed in the Census for1900 and 1910 as a Druggist on Market Street.
Benjamin and his wife had one son, Philip who is listed as a photographer.
Benjamin's father was born in Germany....a possible connection to Dr. Liebig

Regards,

Here's a link to a Benjamin Green Apothecary bottle, embossed, sold on Jeff and Holly Nordstrom's auction....no price listed. It's not similar to yours but I thought you might be interested to compare.

Thanks, Guntherhess I knew I could edit initially but didn't notice the error until after I had submitted it.
I apologize for taking up so much space. Will try and be more careful in the future.

I've dug tons of Benjamin Green bottls over the years, all clear or aqua druggist. He sold a lot of stuff! There is a small house in Berwick with his name on the plaque. That labelled one is great looking. The cobalt one that Jeff and Holly are selling is a nice one, pretty rare. I had once been told that all of those cobalt ones are mint, because they were never distributed, and someone found a case of them. Could be true cause I've never found even a shard.

Hey All:
Thanks for everyone's input.  The color of the bottle is actually a cobalt color.  However every time I take a pic doesn't matter what camera I use the true color does not show.  I will do a little more research then it's heading to Ebay.
Thanks again...
