Dug something up in the backyard... - 7/1/2003 6:10:59 AM

My husband has been fixing a backhoe and dug this large hole in our backyard. We have found many, many bottles and have been able to identify most of them. We have never collected anything before, but finding the story on some of our bottles has been really interesting.

There are several that we cannot find any information on. One in particular we would like to know the story of. It is about 8 inches high, looks like a pop bottle, with a light green tint. It is embossed in the center with the words " Lorain Bottling" in a semi-circle on the top half of the circle, " Company" in a straight line in the middle of the circle, and " Lorain, OH" in a semi-circle on the bottom half of the circle. It has the seam lines up both sides, which from all the reading I have done seems to indicate it was made by an ABM? We live in Lorain County in Ohio and I find it odd that we cannot find any information on this company.

We found another bottle, really looks more like a jar, which had the emboss " Pat Feb 10 03" across the bottom. We also found what looks to be like a medicine bottle (appears to have used a cork) with " L.M. GREEN, PROP" and " WOODBURY, NJ" embossed up the sides. I was wondering if this would help date all the bottles we found.

Just found some additional information. The only record the Historical Society has on Lorain Bottling Co. is that the first telephone book listing was 1924 and their last listing was 1931. I still don' t know what they bottled, but at least now I know the general date of the bottle. I' m supposing that I can date all the bottles I found in this same area for the general time?

Sounds like it may be around that era and earlier.
The Green bottle from Woodbury, N.J. may date earlier than that. I have one that is B.I.M. with a full label.
Medicine bottle, cough syrup, if I remember correctly.
The Patent bottle is probably a fruit jar.
