I'm setting up a display, but glass fronts are not an option. We occasionaly have earthquakes in my area, so without protection my bottles are at risk. What do yuo suggest doing? I've htought about getting fishing line nice and taught across the front so if they did fall, they would simply rest against the line. There must be a way that you guys do it.

B.R- I heard someone a while back make reference to special kind of putty-"earthquake putty"they called it;it sounded pretty good-sorry I dont have the brand name.I know what you mean about that part of the country-years ago I was staying in a strange, old hotel in Seattle when there was a brief tremor late at night;the bed shook and for a moment it had me thinking the room was haunted!

I have a thin Copper wire infront of all my shelves just in case, fishing line will probably be less noticeable than wire.
It's a good idea to have something there, better safe than sorry .

B.R.
I used to use regular double sided tape to stick my display to the shelves back when my brats were kittens and never lost a bottle.

DJ is right about the 'earthquake' putty. It's actually an adhesive that was developed to allow objects to be stuck up on walls and removed without leaving a mark/stain. When my sons were still in school their teachers used it quite frequently. Although we a have a tremor here in Maine now and then, we don't call it 'Earthquake Putty' rather Moose Stomping Gel You might find it in a art, school or office supply store.

Occasionally, I have used rubber cement on the bottom of bottles that were narrow and "tippy."

The rubber cement bonds the bottle tightly to my glass shelf, yet pops off with a bit of lateral pressure. The residue rubs right off with a thumb. Or, leave the residue and the bottle bonds again with the shelf.

It works like velcro, in a sense, but is practically invisible. Cheap, available, and secure.

Yes, I live here in So. California, so we know all about quakes from time to time.... I have used the puddy, purchase at W...M..., or T..... ! Be careful, I used on a bottle that had a hair line crack that I didnt know was there, and when I lifted the bottle, that thin line of bottom glass broke off..... *SAD FACE*.... so just be careful when using... as it does work well.....

Thanks for the tips. I'll probably be using putty and fishing line. Dont want a big one to hit and everything be destroyed. Better safe than sorry.

I use 150# fishing line. I also cut foam core boards and place them between the bottles to prevent them from hitting each other. We have lots of little quakes here in Hawaii.

Greetings all. I was visiting a friend in California about a month ago, and was reminded that in a quake, bottles can move in any direction, not just straight off your shelf. They can move sideways and damage each other, so putty may be a better bet than wire across the front.

I got some of the putty today, called Handi-Tak. It's for hanging things, etc. I just tried it out and am concerned. It doesn't seem to want to stick to the glass at all. The shelves are glass too, so I have the same problem at both ends. What should I do?

KENT..I have heard of people using plasticine ,(florist's putty). You may want to check into that option.

I use a product called Museum Wax (Crytalline Clear) It is a blended microcrystalline wax used by the pros for anchoring glass, china etc... You take a pea shize ball knead to soften apply to base and it is done. EEZEE PRODUCTS
