Julie, thanks a lot for the info. I didn't realize it was that new. Yes it is big enough for coins & makes a lot of sense now that you mention it. Thanks again...Merry Christmas...Beebs

Beebs-  I don't think 1997 is the year of the bottle....I think that 1997 is the year that Kovels priced that bottle.

Pretty sure it was a fruit juice or concentrate for the making of cold drinks.

I am pretty sure that is one of those Grapette elephant banks.  They are from the 1950s and would have held Grapette soda.  The screw top on those had a slot so you could use it as a bank when you were done with the soda.  They also had a cat and clown version.  There are two types of Elephant banks Grapette put out.  One brings $10 and the other around $75.  I am not sure which one yours is.  The differnce between the two has something to do with the Elephants ears.

I don't think Castle and Grapette are the same company, that one's from Castle, circa 1930's.  The dump I found mine in had nothing dating after 1942.

Very cool bottle. There were some interesting figural bottles from the 30s-50s, and the elephants are probably my favorites of them. I have the amber elephant figural bleach bottle from the 30s. I'll have to see if I have a picture of it anywhere, or if I think of it I'll take one and put it up. ~Jim

I'd like to see it.  This one's from Castle Product's Company, hard to find any info on them but I assume it was a similar use to grapette bottles.  ACLS is right about Grapette having a kitten, clown and two elephants, the one I have is called the regular elephant and the other called the slick eared elephant and is worth a lot more. They also used Snowcrest's bear according to this website:
