One of the half dozen known. Oddly enough, this is the same exact bottle that I have had a photograph of since 1990!
Who knew?!

Awesome Gary but what's it say? ????/???? Restorative/ New York. What's the dimensions and such plus a little background please. Maybe I'm beating you to it? That happens sometimes.

BURGER'S / HAIR / RESTORATIVE / NEW YORK

7" and change, serious fire to it. There are about a half a dozen known and all but one of the 5 or 6  known were dug by one person and came out of one privy in Brooklyn back in the 80's.

Back in 1990, someone mailed me a picture of one in his collection as shown next to the other back lit bottles in the above picture. The one that I have finally acquired after months and months of hitting a brick wall, turned out to be the same one!

Small world!

Hey Gary,

Congratulations.

Got you some provenance! Were there any firemen involved in the unearthing of this bottle?

It seems to be shouting out for more back story. Where you gonna put it in relation to the rest of your collection?

"The only pontiled milk glass bottle I have seen was in the Sam Greer collection, a round bottle 7 inches tall, embossed Burger's Hair Restorative, New York." From.

What do you think of Don Fadely's theory?

I feel as if Don has down played the bottle a bit more than one would expect. Additionally, the place marker in lieu of a photo lends me to believe that he doesn't have one. Feel free to draw your own conclusion.

I know who dug them and they came from an early privy.  One person I know of ended up with two and then there was the guy that dug them...let's give him two and then there was the Greer bottle that I don't know if there were firemen involved, why do you ask?

Sam Greer had one and I believe it brought $1600.00 back in 1988, I am reasonably certain that Dr. Cannon was referring to the same.

Thanx for the interest and by the way, it will not be located on the shelf next to commercial Barber's Bottles blown by the tens of thousands.

I'm gonna throw this out there, don't be insulted.
I'm not convinced that it's pontilled. It looks more like the base stuck when coming out of the mold. A comparison with the other examples would help. Were any of them actually and more obviously pontilled?

No offense taken. This is the base of one that didn't make it out of the pit in one piece, I this was given to me by the same person who sent me the picture in 1990.

So much for that, huh?  LOL
