So, I bought my first bottle the other day.
I had heard about poison bottles and found them interesting.  I came across this at an antique/book store while traveling around (it cost £2 ($3.50))
I know it may not be a "true" poison bottle, but still.

I look forward to collecting more "poisons".

The bottom says 6 or 9.  So I'm not sure what size it is.  If anyone knows, let me know!

Hello,
Welcome to the forum.  A bunch of very nice people here and also informative.  The bottle you got is considered a Poison bottle.  They held a variety of Poisons or medicines that were not to be injested, such as iodine etc.  They come in a wide array of colors and the 6 on the base means it held 6 ounces.  There are also warning bars or ribs on the side to warn the patient.  Good luck with your collecting and welcome to the hobby/forum

Thanks for the welcome, and for clearing up that it's a 6.

Yeah, I noticed.  I don't expect it to be a large collection, just something fun to look for :)

Hello and welcome. There are some poison collectors here that will hopefully check in. I'm not one of them but I think NTBT held things like ammonia and other household stuff. Hang on and I should be corrected soon.

Other than the embossed text it has other features that tell you its a poison, bright color, tactile ridges, and an odd shape. All things to warn humans who cant read not to drink it.
Tis a true poison.

Thanks guys.

And when you say its English, do you mean it was only made in England?
If that's the case, I'll have to stock up on them before I come back to the States

Yes and maybe. Look into any duty, baggage fees etc. If they're for you it may be worth it but don't expect to make a killing selling them. There are other bottles that would be much better to bring back. I'd definitely look into that while your there.

OK thanks.  I don't expect to make a killing.  I just figured if they're more readily available over here then I might as well try to find them.

They come in some very nice colors.  Here is a set I had previous.  They are all roughly the same size.  So getting a run of 6 oz ones should be a fun project.  I have a nice teal one I will take some pics of for ya.  First and foremost.....enjoy the hobby.  Great to have ya here.  Keep posting your finds.

This is a vary common KH-29.  Comes in 1 1/2 oz to 20 oz. Colors range from Cobalt, Amber, Clear and various shades of green.

Nice display of colors there, madpaddla.

You don't have to have a bunch of expensive bottles of any type to have a nice collection..   Take a line of commons such as this and collect all the colors and it looks impressive and didn't cost much of anything.  And if you don't find many while in the UK, they are always plentiful on ebay, more than you have fingers on any given day.

There are plenty of inexpensive poisons out there with many variations (KS-12 for example, or any line of the NTBT english bottles), KV-1 and so on.  The rare ones are either the oddities of common lines or just one example of a particular design, so you would probably only have one of them.  The thrill of the hunt.  Yes, it's always nice to find a great deal on a rare/expensive bottle, but that one bottle could buy a whole lot of cheap ones, and you would have a lot too look at for the money.  Just depends on what you are after.

Take a look at this post if you havnt already to get familiar with this line of bottles.  Happy hunting.

Any number of things...but without the labels or old ads, we can only guess for the most part.

Also, sadly, I just noticed a tiny chip in the glass :(

I would guess they held a product that was toxic or inedible but not meant to be a poison.
Something like camphor maybe.
