I took a walk along a railroad that was almost non-negotiable as a railroad anymore. The railroad was abandoned in 1935 and up until around the 1970s, it was a nature trail. When a hurricane came through the Jersey Shore area, it took down the two concrete bridges that had been standing. Because rebuilding the bridges were out of the question, the trail was abandoned and has been taken over by trees ever since. The roadbed has been taken over by dead reeds from the storm tides and pretty much anything I could've found was buried. I found a few things, but nothing really. Most of the trail was covered by plastic bottles, screw top beer bottles and trash. It was about 97 degrees and i forgot my water so after about two hours of walking I gave up and went back. I did however find a boat that could possibly be salvaged and replace my kayak I also found the bottom half of a tombstone I think. I'd have to call this one a flop for now. There is another railroad that I can only get to by kayaking. I'll have to go there another day soon when it's not so hot. Here are my three finds for the day

The finds. Screw top Coke with the seams unbroken. Also a part of an insulator and a fishing lure.

The first of two concrete bridges. Was quite the maze to get to the other side

The railroad was in the middle of no where on one side. About a quarter mile from a causeway on the other

A boat...I think I can salvage it.

A tombstone maybe? It says "Tyrone 46"

Real cool,...could you float the boat somewhere to a trailer or truck when the waters high?

Joe, I sure wish, but the only time the water gets as high as the boat is when storm surges hit the thorofare. Downeast, the railroad was built in the late 1800s. Probably 1880s. It's a junction connecting the beach town to the main Cape May rail line.
