TRADEMARK REGISTERED IN US PATENT OFFICE"
Description: Hobbleskirt, 6 1/2 oz. raised letter, crown sealed, returnable

This is the description of the Coke bottle. #1 Is it worth anything? #2 Is it from the 1950's? (From the pictures and descriptions I've read on the internet, it appears to be).

I don't know for sure, but here's what I do know. I am about to turn 37. When I was 15, I 'babysat' for an elderly woman who lived with her daughter and son-in-law. (She was told that she was baby sitting for me. She tended to wander and her daughter didn't want to leave her alone in the house.) Anyway, once in a blue moon, they would go out and I would come and stay with her. Whenever I did this, the couple would leave me a 'little' Coke in the fridge. It was supposed to be much better tasting than one in a larger bottle. I actually compared the taste of the 'little' Coke to a coke from a larger bottle one evening (it was boring watching an old lady!) The smaller one was much better. I was told that the son-in-law had bought several cases of this size when he heard they were going to stop producing them. I don't know when he bought them, but I turned 15 in November of 1982 so it couldn't have been much earlier than that.

I know I've been no help at all, but I took a lovely turn down memory lane thanks to your post.

Roni

From Reggie's Antique Coca-Cola Bottles Web site:

http://www.antiquebottles.com/rl/coke/#CokePatent

Patent Cokes 1951-1965
These bottles are all ABM with a height of 7 3/4" and have the familiar hobble-skirt design. The 6 oz versions were produced from 1951 to 1958, while the 6 1/2 oz versions were produced from 1958 to 1965. The front side of these bottles is embossed with:
Coca-Cola
TRADE MARK REGISTERED
IN U.S. PATENT OFFICE
and the rear side is embossed with:
Coca-Cola
TRADE MARK REGISTERED
CONTENTS 6 FL OZS. or CONTENTS 6 1/2 FL. OZS.

I'm not sure when, but at one point in time they started using corn syrup instead of sugar as a sweetener. If I recall correctly, it was right around the time period you mentioned that sugar prices went through the roof, because I remember it wasn't long after the Arab oil embargo of the 70s. Hence the taste difference, and yes, they did taste much better when they used sugar.

depends on what town if any is listed on the bottom. some  6 1/2 oz cities are hard to find. also look down the side of your bottle around the slimest part.you should see 2 sets of numbers. your date is there. hope i helped. by the way dont drink it. i had some i kept full for years and had to open them to store them outside. if i stored them full they would have frozen. when i opened them  they stank bad. later greg

In 1975-1978 when I was in college I used to stop at small town grocery stores on my way back to school and go through their Coke inventory and pick out the embossed bottles and buy them by the 6 pack.  So I know they continued to re-bottle Coke in old embossed 6 1/2 ounce bottles until that time.  Your bottle probably was made in the 1950's or 60's but may have been refilled in the 1970's or later.  If you want to know how old the liquid Coke is you might be able to date it better by the style of the bottle cap.
