THE PERSON WHO SAYS THEY FOUND IT You never know what you can find (including garden center diplays). Here's an odd little story. Once while diving near a pier, I feel a bumpy ridged hard object. It is 3/4 burried and covered in weeds. I dig it up and it is an old beat up alligator made of poured concrete with rebar in it to hold it together. My guess is that the thing originally adorned a dock or was placed on shore but it hadn't aged well. Rather than struggle with hauling the thing away, somebody pushed it off the dock into the lake. Mind you, this thing is about four feet long and at least 100 pounds. I lifted out of the water and put it on the dock - which wasn't easy. I've always wondered what the people thought when they saw it. Were they freaked out? Did they have any guess as to how it could have happened? I never heard, though because I don't know the people and no one has ever asked me about it. But, if I was to say that that thinig was a genuine fossil (as found) who could argue?
