I believe I posted this some time back and was trying to find someone that could tell me something about it as for age and use , but never got a comment on it . Actually, I can not help but think it was used for transporting bottles , but the fact it is made of galvanized metal mystifies me . I have never seen another like it , and it is not listed in my Petretti's Coke book . Is there anyone on here that can give me info as to the age of this metal crate ? I also do not believe that the line of holes through the sides of the case are original either . Also , there is no kind of dividers on the inside of the box , although there could have been at one time . Looks like someone may have used it to transport an animal or chickens at some time in its history . Maybe that is why the holes were drilled in the sides of it .

That is a nice case, could it have been used in coolers or refrigerated cases in stores? Galvanized metal would probably fare better than a wooden case in the moist environment of a cooler or ice chest. The holes don't look original but if they are, they would probably help circulate cold air.

i'm not sure but didn't someone post a case like that several years ago and said it was for shipping coke on trains or something  along those lines.

It looks as though it might have set into one of those chest coolers,...(perhaps the ones that used ice & water?) Our old chest pepsi and coke machines were all gavanized inside...even the later non water ones....Or maybe it just made it easier to stock the bottom overstock compartment under the dispenser area....I notice there's also vent holes...perhaps to help the water to evaporate? Just a thought.

I think that was my post John , don't know now why I thought it could have been something like that , just a wild guess lol .

Joe , I am sure the holes were drilled in it by someone else , do not believe it was produced with the holes in it . Those holes are in a good straight line though . I have tried forever to find out something about this item , and have never found any information whatsoever about it , nor have I ever seen another one .

I think it may be some sort of ice chest, that would go into the cooler JOETHECROW posted. That way, the bottles would be cold, but not frozen because they were not in contact with the ice.

Bottles R Us - especially Coke ones!
