I had a chance to check out a bunch of  garage sale items that are going on sale Friday. I was told that a woman who was their friend went through the stuff before I got there and bought $100.00 worth. Here are some things I purchased. I was told there is more to be put in this sale and I can check it out before the sale starts Friday. I passed on a dozen canning  jars becuase I didn't think they were valuable but to tell you the truth I know very little about food jars. They looked like squatty bal masons deep blue aqua and a couple of masons. One embossed magic. Heres is some pics.

You did good. The iron isn't all that great but the crock was worth every penny and then some. Richard Hudnut is one of our local figures. From what I've read he had a nice mansion, loved the oriental style and owned a ranch full of exotic animals. he also had 20 or 30 people working his ranch and in his mansion full time. Swiz

Ive been doing some research and found that the Hudnut perfume bottle is older than I thought. I found a list where it said it was marketed in 1896 and also in 1902. The iron although being in super condition and with box and pamplets isn't worth much. I think I saw where someone listed one and said it was marketed in the 1940's.  Good boat anchor. The crock I guess is 1870's era and well worth the $5.00 I paid fot it.

Hey JustGlass,

Very nice acquisition on the Norton. Is it E & LP Norton? From.

I don't think the lid goes with it, either.

"1793 established by Captain John Norton making redware
1800 first stoneware was made
1823 Capt Norton retired and son Luman Norton took over renaming the pottery L Norton and Company
1828 Luman became sole owner and the name became plain L Norton
1833 the mark became L Norton and Son, when Lumans son Julius entered the firm
1840 the mark became Julius (or J) Norton, it is assumed that Luman Norton had retired
1842 became bankrupt and reorganized
pre 1845 Christopher W Fenton became a partner after working there several years, he was married to Julius' sister, and the mark became Norton and Fenton
1845 fire destroyed the pottery and it was rebuilt
1847 the partnership was dissolved and the mark used was Julius (or J) Norton
C W Fenton partnershiped to found the Lyman, Fenton and Company which became United States Pottery Company
1850 a cousin Edward Norton became a partner and the mark was changed to J. and E. Norton
1859 the only son of Julius, Luman Preston Norton entered the firm and it became J. & E. Norton and Company or J. Norton and Co
1861 Julius died and the pottery became E. & L. P. Norton
1881 Lumas Preston Norton retired and the pottery mark became E. Norton
1883 C W Thatcher bought half interest and the mark became Edward Norton and Company or E. Norton and Company
1884 Edward Norton died and C.W.Thatcher took over, He ceased pottery production and operated as a wholesaler until 1911
They produced Rockingham, stoneware jugs, crocks, brown glazed pottery pieces, whiteware for table use, yellowware for milkpans, pitchers, mixing bowls, baking dishes, etc" From.

I love that crock and at $5 what a deal  I only find broken ones, and most of the ones at the antique store are a bit out of my price range. just wondered,  Where in Vermont are you from? I'm from the Bennington area.

Vtdigger, Im live near the Rutland area. I travel down your way quite often to walk a large antique shop that is just up past the museum. I always wanted to look for arrowheads in the Bennington area and find some good old spots to metal detect.
