Here is a fairly uncommon bottle I got off fleabay recently.
GARDINER'S RHEUMATIC AND NEURALGIA COMPOUND. BOSTON, MASS.  This is a hinge mold smooth base, there are also pontil marked versions.
There isnt much to be found on this guy. Baldwin lists it as Chas. F Gardiner advertised around the Civil War. In the 1862 Boston city directry I found Henry R Gardiner listed as a proprietor for rheumatic compound. Both men were listed at same address so I assume they were relatives both in the patent medicine bussiness. If anyone else has info on it I'd like to hear it.

A couple things that might not help much

this page is from an 1861 war book.
http://books.google.com/books?id=Ku6H2WUsef4C&pg=PA151&lpg=PA151&dq=GARDINER'S+RHEUMATIC+compound&source

I guess it's Henry and his house was in Cambridge. looks like he may have lived with Chas. according to that directory.

I guess it went international by 1874
