Shagnasty took the two and a half hour drive over today for a dig. We went to a little town where I had permission to dig on a buddy's property but he wasn't home and I really didn't want to suprise with a sloppy hole in his yard. Instead, we walked next door and I explained to the lady what we were doing and got permission in less than 2 minutes. We got started probing and 5 minutes later we found a hole to dig.
We cut the sod away to dig a test hole first. once we got down about a foot or so we hit what appeared to be the stones outlining a hole. We took some more sod off and opened it up farther. At about 18" or so we hit water and started bailing. Then came the first  "Buzz-Kill", plastic! We hit plastic at about 2 feet.
It appeared to be a stone lined privy at first but I think we were actually in a small cistern for an outbuilding. I'm guessing the building was torn down and the cistern filled it very late.
We continued digging and bailing and pulled out a 1950's marble that was dinged up and a 50's bowl. I probed the hole again and found we were only 18" to two feet from the bottom. It was getting later and I figured if we filled the hole in quickly enough we had time to hit a local dump. So we filled it in and replaced the sod.
We ended up at a little roadside dump that has produced so nice milks among other things. Got there around 4 pm. and dug for two hours. Shag found a Jumbo Jar and a 1/2 pint milk from Cadiz Ohio..
Other than not finding squat myself, all in all it was a great day because I got to dig! Here are a few pics of the dig that I took and I'll let Shag post the pics he took. I could post those too because I made sure I got copies before he left but I'll let him have a little pleasure too.

Enjoy the pics!!!

That particular size and style of "Jumbo" doesn't have much value. You see them in antiques shops for around $5-$15. They are a little more scarce with a good lid. There are several variants worth a little more than others though. One is the smallest 3oz. I believe. The other one that you need to keep your eyes peeled for is the "Apple Butter" Variant. It's much more scarce and desirable. I believe my brother dug one up last year but I'm not positive.

It's not a bad jar Shag. You found a very fine example which is heavily embossed. It also goes with your other. The way I see it that jar payed for you gas to get here.

I don't know why I thought that was a Hillcrest from Cadiz....Holiday's Cove no longer exists. It is called Weirton today.

it says on the front "union made/BENN-HUBB/peanut butter/net wt.1/2 lbs./bennett-hubbard/candy company/chattanooga, tenn." and on the back " made with/ peanuts and salt"

legend.... a "/" indicates a break in embossing
