Snatched a deal on silver coins today, 6 Roosevelts, 2 Washingtons, 2 Kennedys and a 1924 peace dollar. Plus the lady tossed in a batch of Euros free.
Some decent books very cheap, but no bottles to be found, nor any militaria. Did get a sweet brass oil can Whitaker mfg co Chicago. Picked that one up for a buck. Little elbow grease and some polish and thats a keeper.

Very nice! Glad to hear you got some deals...how about a picture of that oil can?
I didn't get much this morning...kitchen stuff, couple knife sets, tupperware...everyone seemed to be overpriced..or people were waiting to look way before the sales started..talked to 1 lady who said she had people waiting in her driveway an hour before she was set to open...not sure how to compete with that

I went out as well today, as I usually do on Friday morning. There's a lot of sales and a lot of competition, so I generally don't wait unless it sounds really good, most have starting time of 9, if they aren't open by 8 or shortly after, I move on. Not a good day, as usual, a early maple rolling pin for $2, stanley 220 plane for $1, and a W Bingham catalog 1941 for .50. The catalog is fascinating as Bingham was a wholesaler of hardware and apparently just about everything else in Cleveland for many years. My dad had a general store years ago, and they bought much of their inventory wholesale from them. The catalog has just about everything for a household with a photo of each item including items I thought were outdated by that time like lanterns, kerosene lamps, copper boilers, various churns and much more.

ACC`D I will try to post the can. Its got a long 5-6 inch tube and about 4-1/2 inches can wise. I looked on Ebay and did a search and came up with nothing. Would be great if it was worth$$$. But I just thought it was neat. I did come away with some Elmer Keith books very reasonable. A `39 copy of Grapes of rath, and some about the Indian wars of the Dakotas/Wy/Mt. Been out there and read all I can about that.
I know what you mean about people there early. I politely asked a lady if I could look AT 10AM.......who starts at 10AM??? Didnt buy anything either. But the very next sale I asked about coins and scored.
Couple over priced estate sales. Tools rusted galore and youd thought they were gold. Guy was pricing stuff, I saw a small shotgun shell sized box of copper fittings they wanted 20 bucks for them. Told them good luck.
I did have a kid try to race by me that was at a sale prior figured he was going to ask about militaria and coins. The thought did cross my mind to extend my foot to trip him, but he didnt ask. Just wanted to look at toys.
Come to think of it, I did see a wicker basket full of pop bottles but nothing rare or collectible to me. The lady had tons of current canning jars. Think we hit maybe 30 or so sales today. Lots of aluminum and brass cheap.

Todd- was the Bingham catalog you picked up hardcover or softcover? I've seen a few older catalogs recently with book like covers and thought they were neat. Good finds on the rolling pin and the plane.
MI- Sounds like an interesting can. I didn't pick up anything on saturday morning, stopped at a few on my way out of town. Trying to put together a list of some shops to stop at on the way to Michigan this weekend. I found listings for a store in beaverdam and in wapokoneta I haven't been to yet, so I may try to check them out. Theres a couple in Toledo I'd like to get to. Not sure if it would be better to hit up Gibraltar on friday or sunday.

Gibraltar will be ok either day. They dont get a huge crowd either day so you will be able to look and have room to walk. Saturdays would be the busiest days, so You should be able to cruise through rather quickly. Though they are large places. You might check though, I think Fridays are free parking.
Havent been down there in some time, but I always came back with something. Plus thay had a food court and many different types of food so theres something for everyone. Good luck with your shopping!

The catalog is hard cover and at 1516 pages, there's a lot of stuff in there. Bingham was wholesale only so most things are listed by the dozen or more. I saw the same catelog for $95 on buy it now on ebay, but those are always grossly overpriced. I think I'll keep it as its a great reference for items and prices of the period

Any idea if there's anything in there from the C.S. Bell company? I have a few of their smaller catalogs/brochures, and always wondered if they advertised in anything like your catalog. It would definitely be a great reference, and while maybe not worth $95, it should be worth some money being hardcover

MIDigger - Any luck picking up bottles or jars at gibraltar in the past? I'm hoping to find a few this weekend someplace. I found a guy on craigslist from Marshall, MI with a bunch of toledo stuff, but I'm not sure yet if I'm gonna have time to make it out that far

I just started with bottles about 2 years ago. I havent been to Gibraltar in probably 7 years or so. I cant tell you for sure, but I know people have antiques so there must be glass items also. That big one in Pontiac at telegraph and Dixie has a lot of antiques too.

Some finds today some d-pat cokes and 6ozs. Only bought one though from Alpena Mi thats gotta be a somewhat hard to find one. Had an assortment of them Oh, Tex,Az all over. Also got a few milks, and some early meds.
Lots of glass today but not much I was interested in. Cleaned up on brass and aluminum. 1 collectible bluebill decoy (goes with my canvasback). 1 watch, some med supplies, 1 40mm ammo can cheap (seen those as high as 40 bucks which is rediculous). A few GM trinkets. Not one coin and military was limited to the 40 mike mike can.

Sounds like you had a decent day at least. We only made it to one antique store in toledo friday. Didn't find much. I met up with a guy friday night and bought some nice toledo bottles. Didn't end up going to gibraltar sunday, was ready to get back home. Looks like there's going to be a lot of sales around this weekend down here.

Hit a few sales today. Got some brass and copper cheap. Bought a few DVDs for $1 each. No bottles today. Pretty warm so going to hit it early tomorrow morning and see what I can pick up.
Saturday supposed to cool down so we will be digging and detecting. Maybe some afternoon rummage sales. Sunday off to another Flea Mkt I just had a friend call about. Hope to find some deals there.
Good luck with your shopping guys.

Glad to hear you got a few things. I went out this morning and hit as many as I could before work. First one wasn't open yet and had six cars out front with people waiting, so I passed it up. Went after another one on my list and there ended up being about 6 on that street. I bought an old scale, a few pieces of spongeware pottery, a beveled glass mirror, a kraut cutter, and a mccoy flower pot. Saw one local milk bottle, but it was common and I already have it, so I left it sitting. Then chased one way out of town, but everything was priced pretty high. Wish I would have had all morning to drive around. Gonna try to get out again first thing in the morning with the family. Hope everyone else is finding some deals

Well you got a few finds!. We just got back in (started about 10am). Picked up a massive amount of aluminum and brass cheap at a sale the guys Dad had passed and was practically giving things away. I grabbed a big tent case and filled it with at least 50lbs of stuff. Military, collectibles, aluminum (heavy pans) parts you name it. he said 15 bucks I countered at 12 he took it.
Told me to be back at 9am tomorrow as he was going to have much, much more. (I missed the coins!).....but I will be there at 9. Plenty of other sales, got more GM collectibles, NOT 1 collectible bottle today??. Plus the usual trinkets and such. Last sale of the day I struck coinage and got some Buffalo nickels and wheatbacks. A nice 1913-s the lady had a small handful offering the lot to me for $2.....WOW. I didnt examine them (due to volume I couldnt lose). Still going through them but that was a great deal.

Still looking forward to the flea sunday and hope to find some goods.
